Allen Davis is an old friend from high school who dabbles a bit in photography. He expressed he wanted something different for his website, not a typical photography gallery, to feature his benefit exhibit being held in August. He voiced how his current host (Google’s Blogger service) didn’t provide him with everything he wants, although he is very satisfied with the ease it offers as it is integrated with his Google Account.

His basic list of requirements for a new site includes…

  • Ability to post by email
  • Hit count and visitor tracking
  • Parallax design and elements
  • New domain name
  • Priority to get event online for marketing purposes

Blogger is not as friendly with creative design as most would think. After several emails and discussions, his new domain was purchased and I set up hosting in WordPress. Collaborating with Allen and his team via Google-docs, images and information were shared which gave me real insight to what he is looking for.

Phase 1: Site Architecture, Design & Plugins

  • Jetpack enabled
  • Slidshow plugins utilized

Phase 2: Image Use & Event Online

  • To better entice site viewers to visit the show, only select images are featured in full. All other images display only selected details, not the entire image.

  • Gathering images from Allen’s past events and websites
  • Organizing everything into Collections for better display
  • Creating Tags for better organization within the site
